Meet Rawya Ahmed Rajab Al-Dahshan, a 40-year-old mother whose life has been defined by resilience and heartbreak. Rawya waited 17 long years to bring her son, Naim, into the world. Naim is now seven years old, her only child, and the light of her life. But their story is far from ordinary—it’s a story of survival, sacrifice, and the urgent need for help.
Rawya’s journey took a devastating turn on October 14, when their home in the Al-Zeitoun area of Gaza was struck by two rockets. The first explosion was so powerful that it threw her family out into the street. But Rawya wasn’t so lucky. As she remained inside, a second missile hit, shattering her leg and covering her in burns. In the chaos that followed, she was mistakenly declared dead and placed in a body bag. Miraculously, the medical team at Al-Shifa Hospital realized she was still alive. Rawya had been given a second chance at life—but at a steep cost.
With her husband, who is diabetic and had his leg amputated, and her son trapped in Gaza, Rawya was forced to navigate the war-torn landscape alone. Her injuries required urgent care, yet Gaza’s hospitals were overwhelmed. As she was transferred between Al-Shifa, Nasser Hospital, and a hospital in Rafah, the situation grew more desperate. She had no access to proper medical care, only occasional pain relief provided by a nurse or well-meaning young people who managed to find supplies.
A glimmer of hope came when a doctor at Nasser Hospital refused to amputate her leg, believing it could be saved if treated outside Gaza. She was medically evacuated to Egypt and then to Saudi Arabia, where she underwent her first surgery—a plate was inserted to stabilize her leg. But the surgery was just the beginning. Rawya’s time in Saudi Arabia was cut short, and she was sent back to Egypt without completing her treatment. She now faces another critical operation, a bone graft that could give her the ability to walk again.
But Rawya’s challenges haven’t ended. She has been left alone in Egypt, without any support from the Palestinian embassy or social services. Every day, she struggles to afford food, medication, and the looming cost of surgery. Meanwhile, her son Naim, who also suffered burns in the blast, remains in Gaza with his father, waiting for the day they can be reunited.
Time is running out. We need to help Rawya so she can walk and move normally. The cost is $2000 for the operation, with additional monthly expenses for X-rays and medications. The longer she waits, the harder her recovery will be, and the lower the chances of success. Rawya deserves a chance to walk again, to care for her son, and to rebuild her life after so much loss.
This is where you come in. Your donations will directly fund Rawya’s surgery, her ongoing medical care, and her basic needs as she recovers. It will give a mother the chance to stand on her feet and walk beside her son again. After waiting 17 years to become a mother, Rawya cannot be left to face this battle alone.
Please help Rawya walk again and reunite with her son. Your support can make all the difference.
